Anderson Development Celebrates 50 Years in 2018!

october 8, 2018

2018 marks 50 years of responsible chemistry, innovation and moving forward at Anderson Development Company. For our 50th Anniversary year, we wanted to establish a theme that describes what we have been doing for the last 50 years, and continue to do for the next 50 years and beyond.

“Responsible Chemistry Moving You Forward to an Infinite Tomorrow.”

what exactly does this mean?

responsible chemistry: we are in the business of chemistry and the only way to do it is responsibly. it is an absolute must to operate safely and compliantly.

moving forward: we have continually moved forward from where we started, and we are not finished. to us, moving forward is continuing to learn, grow, get better and never being complacent. while we do need to look back and learn from our history, our main focus is on our future and where we will be going.

亿万彩票软件you: includes all of our stakeholders; customers whom we appreciate and will help make them successful, our teammates and coworkers whom we will continue to provide the best working environment and support, and also to our community in which we will continue to support, grow with and be in harmony with.

infinite tomorrow: we will continue to move into the future which has no boundaries and that we can shape. we do not have a ceiling to hold us down and with our team at adc working together, there are no limits!

On September 23, 2018, Anderson Development hosted a 50th亿万彩票软件 Anniversary Celebration at our location in Adrian, MI. We shut down our production facilities to allow all employees the opportunity to attend with their families. Also invited were retirees from ADC, board officers from our parent company, Mitsui Chemicals, as well as many dignitaries from within our community. The party included food, entertainment for the kids and plant tours for everyone. The plant tours were particularly special because it allowed all attendees to see inside our plant, to learn more about the products we make here at ADC and the types of applications our products are used for-- since the products we make at ADC do not appear on a store shelf. The day was exceptional from beginning to end. We had wonderful weather, an amazing turnout, and an exceptional team of ADC employees who planned the event.

Press Release Statement, April 10, 2018:

we would like to apologize for any disruption that the incident at anderson development company on april 10, 2018 has caused the community. we thank you for your patience. we also would like to thank the county hazmat teams, fire departments, police, sheriff, city/road departments, and emergency responders that responded to the incident. with their assistance, the incident was able to be addressed with no injuries or environmental impact.

at around 10:30 am tuesday morning, a tanker truck arrived at anderson development company containing butyl methacrylate, otherwise known as bma. when the tanker arrived, in accordance with our safe operating procedures, it was noted that the temperature of the material in the tanker was elevated above safe operating levels. at that time, emergency procedures were activated, the tanker was moved away from occupied areas, and the appropriate authorities were contacted. since protecting our employees and the community is our foremost concern, the response team decided to evacuate non-essential personnel from anderson development company’s site as well as homes and other facilities within ½ mile of the tanker in the interest of the safety of all. throughout the course of the day, anderson development company employees worked with the community emergency response team and were able to cool the tanker to a safe working temperature. during the event, air monitoring was conducted around the area and no emissions were detected.

the all clear was issued at approximately 5:30 p.m. tuesday afternoon. at this time, we do not know why the tanker arrived with an elevated temperature. we will continue our investigation and work with our suppliers to ensure that materials arrive in a safe manner.

butyl methacrylate is part of a class of chemicals known as acrylates. acrylates are used in the production of solid surface countertops, paint and coatings, dental restorations, and adhesives. while finished products produced from acrylates are common, the acrylic monomers used to make these products have some properties that must be respected to handle and use them safely. the most important property in this case is that acrylic monomer can self-polymerize when heated to a high temperature, generating a self-accelerated reaction. cooling the monomer prevented it from reaching this temperature and prevented the self-accelerating reaction from occurring. this returned the monomer to a safe condition and continued to keep the community safe.

亿万彩票软件again we would like to thank the hazmat, fire, police, sheriff, city/road departments, and other emergency responders for all that they have done to take care of this situation and to keep our community safe. we are very sorry for any disruption that this incident has caused our neighbors.

Combining the Excitement of Sport with the Rigors of Science & Technology:

april 20, 2016

Students from Adrian, MI were able to get as close to real-life engineering as a student could get through a program called “FIRST亿万彩票软件 Robotics Competition”, also known as the ultimate sport for the mind. Under strict rules, with limited resources and an intense six-week time limit, teams build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors.

The great thing about the FIRST Robotics Competition is that all skill levels are welcomed. Technical and non-technical students are needed as team needs a variety of skills in order to succeed. Another advantage of FIRST Robotics participation is the access to millions of scholarships made available by colleges, universities and corporations who support FIRST and that many of the scholarships do not have to go toward an engineering degree. Through this program, students learn from professional engineers, master STEM skills, improve teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills which ultimately helps prepare them for their future.

The team from Adrian High School in Adrian, MI created the team “BlueBotics” and Anderson Development Company had to opportunity to support this team in their first year of competition. The students worked very hard in preparation for their competitions. Starting in early January, the students spent numerous hours in the evenings and weekends to build their robotics and increase their skills. The team also brought their robot to several events within their school district to generate awareness of the program throughout their community. BlueBotics earned the Judges Award at the FIM District-Livonia event in March and also earned the Gracious Professionalism Award at the FIM District-Ann Arbor Skyline event in April. Congratulations to BlueBotics for their success in their rookie season of FIRST 亿万彩票软件Robotics Competition. Anderson Development wishes you best of the luck in upcoming seasons.

Lenawee County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day: May 10, 2014

february 20, 2014

ADC wants to help with your Spring Cleaning again this year by hosting the Lenawee County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.  Items such as used oil, old paint, batteries (all types), fluorescent tubes and CFLs, cleaners, garden chemicals, and other common household hazardous wastes will be collected at our Wabash Street parking lot from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturday May 10th (2014).

亿万彩票软件as in previous years, adc is partnering with wacker chemical to hire a licensed hazardous waste contractor to collect, transport and dispose of these common materials that may otherwise end up in a landfill or down a sanitary drain.  properly disposing of these materials protects out community by preventing  corrosives, flammables and heavy metals from entering the environment.

亿万彩票软件lenawee county will also be collecting used tires and electronics at the lenawee county fair grounds, which is located just around the block from adc (off of haney drive).  used tires can be recycled into new tires, playground cover, flooring and fuel.  tires that are not properly recycled can be the cause of fires and attract pest including mosquitoes and rodents.  electronic waste may contain heavy metals such as cadmium, beryllium and lead and present harmful exposure issues to sanitation workers and landfill groundwater.

The Stubnitz Environmental Education Center (located off of M-52 near Valley Road) will be coordinating outreach activities with coffee, donuts, nature walks and presentations for the whole family.  As a further enticement, ADC will be handing out coupons to the first 100 cars at the HHW collection event which can be redeemed at the Stubnitz Center for a hanging flower basket.  And remember, Mother’s Day is on Sunday May 11th亿万彩票软件.  What would be better than a clean garage and flowers!

ADC employees should contact Jamie Williams, Environmental Waste Coordinator, to arrange for drop off of their chemicals during working hours.  Jamie is our in-house expert and event coordinator.  All other Lenawee County residents will be welcome to come down on Saturday, May 10th亿万彩票软件 to drop of their household wastes.  Based on past experience, we anticipate 400 to 450 cars; traffic volume is usually heaviest in the morning.   Watch for updates in the Daily Telegram and other local news venues.  We look forward to seeing you at the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day!
